In discussions of carb thresholds?the amount of carbs an individual can tolerate without gaining weight??you?ve probably noticed the acronyms ACE, CCLL and CCLM. The Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE) entered the lexicon when it replaced the clunkier Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintenance (CCLM). Your ACE represents that ?magic? number of grams of net carbs that allows you to maintain your weight once you get there. Your CCLL is your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing. It will fall just a bit below your ACE?you?ll figure this out during the Ongoing Weight Loss phase of Atkins. As you increase your carb intake in increments of 5 grams per day, you will hit a number at which you stop losing; you then drop back 5 grams. That will be your CCLL, the number you?ll stick with until the next phase or beyond.
